Chapter 15: Let’s Go See The Simurgh! (Part 2)

Perhaps because of the cake incident, I had developed a slight sense of discomfort towards Alan. Although Alan had reluctantly agreed.

“Sol, remember what you said the other day? You wanted to become strong and create a world where everyone can be happy. I want to help you with that. Will you take my hand?”

Nox’s serious gaze pierced through me. It felt truly happy to have someone I loved say something like that. I wanted to take his hand. I felt like I could accomplish it if Nox and everyone else were with me.

    “I’ll do my best.”

As I placed my hand on the one he was offering, it felt like a strong connection had been formed between us. A dark purple mist enveloped us, and I was carried horizontally, wrapping my arms around his neck.

When I closed my eyes, I found myself back in my room. Nox and I were alone; the others weren’t there. After being gently set down, we sat on the sofa, still holding hands.

“I’m sorry for losing control earlier.”

“It’s okay. Nox, you really like the first Demon King, don’t you?”

“I told you before, I was taken away from my parents when I was young.”

    “Yeah.”

Remembering that time made me feel sad and hurt. But it was nice to know more about Nox, so I listened intently.

“It doesn’t matter about bloodlines when it comes to being the Demon King. When I was around the same age as you, Sol, I discovered I could use dark magic, and I was taken to the Demon King’s castle for education. That’s when I first heard stories about the first Demon King. He’s someone I really respect.”

So, the first Demon King was someone Nox admired. That’s why he got so angry when Oreole denied it. Hearing his story made me feel closer to Nox. I wanted to know more about him.

    “I’m happy.”

    “…Happy?”

“Yeah. You’re telling me about yourself, which means you trust me. That makes me happy.”

A smile spread across my face. As I smiled, Nox gently stroked my hair, and I thought I saw a faint smile on his face. I felt like my happiness was beside Nox. I realized it every day. I loved Nox.

    “I really love you, Nox.”

Nox’s hand hesitantly stroked my head, and I felt happy. At least, I wasn’t rejected this time. His fingers gently ran through my hair, making me feel at ease.

“You must be tired. Why don’t you take a bath and sleep?”

    “…Uh…”

I felt awkward, but I wanted to be selfish. “Can you stay with me until I fall asleep?”

After saying that, I felt embarrassed and looked away. Nox might be busy, and I didn’t want to trouble him.

“It’s fine. I’ll read you a bedtime story.”

    “I’m happy.”

Bath time had passed quickly with Beatrice’s help, and after cleaning up, we returned to the room. Nox sat in a chair beside my bed, looking at a picture book.

As I got into bed, Nox told me to lie down. The room was dark, and the only sound was Nox’s voice.

I touched Nox’s free hand, and he gently squeezed mine.

As I drifted off to sleep, listening to Nox’s soothing voice, I felt happy.

    “I love you…”

    “…”

    “I’ll grow up quickly…”

Sleepiness hit me suddenly, and my words became jumbled as I continued to express my feelings. Nox gently brushed aside the hair covering my face.

“Don’t rush; take your time growing up. I promise to be with you as long as you want. It will be for the good of the world.”

I felt a soft touch on my cheek, and for a moment, I thought I heard a gentle kiss. However, it was quickly engulfed by my drowsiness, and I wasn’t sure if it was real or not.

    We’re nearing the adulthood arc!
