When Lin Chun arrived at the police station, the woman who had broken up with her six months ago was sitting obediently on a bench. She was wearing a loose striped T-shirt and black shorts, her phoenix eyes timidly lowered.

It had been half a year since they last saw each other, and she had lost a lot of weight. The face behind the large black-framed glasses was still clean and delicate.

    “Hello, are you Miss Lin?”

Lin Chun nodded, “Yes, that’s me.”

“We only found your contact information in Miss He’s phone. May I ask what your relationship is with her?”

    Lin Chun was stunned.

She suddenly remembered a late night, after they had made love, they lay entwined, and she leaned against He Lanjin’s shoulder, panting, “Xiao Jin, who called you earlier?”

“My editor,” He Lanjin replied softly.

“Oh,” Lin Chun bit He Lanjin, “Delete all of them. I want your life to have only me.”

After every moment of physical pleasure, Lin Chun would act like she was under a spell, saying nonsensical things and making unreasonable demands.

She never took it seriously, but she didn’t expect He Lanjin to actually clear her contact list and WeChat, leaving only her.

How could it be that after half a year, He Lanjin’s contact list still only had her?

The policeman’s voice pulled Lin Chun back to reality, “Miss Lin?”

“She’s my ex-girlfriend,” Lin Chun said without hesitation.

Hearing this, He Lanjin looked up at Lin Chun, her face full of confusion.

The policeman cleared his throat awkwardly, “Well, Miss He fainted on the street today, and when she woke up, she couldn’t remember anything. We couldn’t contact her family, so we had to contact you.”

Lin Chun looked at He Lanjin, who had lost her usual cold and deep demeanor, her eyes now clear and bright. This gaze was indeed unlike He Lanjin.

Lin Chun asked, “Did you take her to the hospital? What did the doctor say?”

“The doctor said she has amnesia.”

These words exploded in Lin Chun’s ears.

    He Lanjin has amnesia?

    Why does she have amnesia?

Lin Chun led He Lanjin out of the police station. She turned to see He Lanjin, who was taller than her, and gritted her teeth, “He Lanjin, what are you playing at? Jokes have their limits.”

He Lanjin’s face was full of confusion, “What? He what?”

Lin Chun tried to suppress her rising anger, she said each word slowly, “He. Lan. Jin. If you’re lying to me, you’re dead.”

“My name is He Lanjin,” He Lanjin’s lips moved, “Then what’s your name?”

Lin Chun pursed her lips and ignored He Lanjin. She pulled He Lanjin into the car, and when she started the car, her shoulders trembled along with the vehicle. Lin Chun was shaking with anger!

She couldn’t understand, this person disappeared without a trace after breaking up with her half a year ago. She had spent some time getting over that relationship, and now she was being told—He Lanjin has amnesia!

Why does she have amnesia, and why did she break up with her?

    Lin Chun couldn’t even ask!

Lin Chun stepped on the gas, and the car sped down the road bathed in the setting sun. As evening approached, Lin Chun brought the amnesiac He Lanjin home.

While driving, Lin Chun kept glancing at He Lanjin, who was also curiously observing everything around her. She occasionally looked at herself but didn’t speak.

In the past, He Lanjin also spoke little, and it was always Lin Chun who initiated conversations.

Once, Lin Chun came across a Douyin video and teased, “Xiao Jin, someone said that if you don’t feel the desire to share your life with someone, it means you don’t love them. Do you not love me?”

He Lanjin immediately put down her laptop and wrapped Lin Chun in her arms, “You are my entire life. Ah Chun, I love you.”

During those three months with He Lanjin, Lin Chun almost drowned in He Lanjin’s tenderness. If she had known He Lanjin was so affectionate, she should have pursued her in high school.

They were only high school classmates.

    Not close high school classmates.

Lin Chun had opened a bar a few years ago and had made enough money to move from the outskirts of the city to a loft apartment in the business district. She led He Lanjin inside, took a bottle of sparkling water from the fridge, and drank half of it in one go.

Lin Chun glanced at He Lanjin. “Thirsty?”

    He Lanjin shook her head.

“What do you want to eat tonight?” Lin Chun asked while opening the fridge, “Do you want dumplings?”

He Lanjin shook her head again.

Lin Chun closed the fridge and looked at He Lanjin, “Then what do you want to eat?”

He Lanjin spoke slowly, her voice soft, “I want to eat pancakes.”

“Pancakes?” Lin Chun frowned, “There’s no place nearby that sells pancakes. I’ll bring some back for you later.”

“Okay,” He Lanjin nodded obediently, sitting awkwardly on the sofa, looking very uncomfortable. He Lanjin’s skin was very fair, and now her arms were covered in dust, her face smudged.

Lin Chun guessed that He Lanjin had been through a lot today, fainting on the street and being shuffled between the hospital and the police station.

Lin Chun went into the bedroom, took a spare towel and a loose T-shirt, and handed them to He Lanjin, “Go take a shower and change your clothes.”

He Lanjin took the clothes and towel, her eyes blank. Lin Chun looked at her, “Have you forgotten how to shower?”

“I… I can,” He Lanjin stuttered, her cheeks reddening as she lowered her head further, “There’s no underwear here.”

Lin Chun was also stunned, “Go shower first, I’ll look for some. I’ll bring it to you when I find it.”

He Lanjin pointed to the sink by the bathroom door, “Just leave it here, I’ll take it myself.”

Lin Chun rolled her eyes, so this girl was worried she’d watch her shower? There wasn’t a part of He Lanjin’s body she hadn’t seen before.

Soon, the sound of water came from the bathroom. Lin Chun found a pack of disposable underwear and went to the bathroom door, suddenly feeling mischievous.

Lin Chun suddenly opened the bathroom door, and a wave of warm steam hit her. She raised her voice, “He Lanjin, I couldn’t find the disposable underwear, maybe it’s in the bathroom. I’ll come in and look.”

He Lanjin was rinsing her hair, she rubbed her eyes and looked at Lin Chun, “You, you…”

In the mist, water slid down her well-proportioned body, and Lin Chun swallowed, her eyes unconsciously drawn to the curves.

He Lanjin turned around awkwardly, her slender waist and the dimples on her back looking even more alluring.

“Ah, found it,” Lin Chun pulled out the pack of disposable underwear from behind her, “I’ll leave it here.”

Lin Chun left the bathroom, unsure if it was the steam or seeing He Lanjin’s body that made her restless, even feeling a certain wetness.

In the past, Lin Chun loved making love in the bathroom, and He Lanjin would indulge her.

He Lanjin came out of the shower, and Lin Chun’s loose T-shirt looked a bit tight on her. He Lanjin had a large but slender frame, tall and lean, which was one of the reasons Lin Chun liked her—being held by He Lanjin made Lin Chun feel very safe.

Lin Chun put He Lanjin’s clothes in the washing machine and said to her, “I’m going to the bar for a bit, I’ll be back soon. Stay at home, and call me if anything happens.” Lin Chun added, “You know how to make a call, right?”

“Yes, I know,” He Lanjin looked at the kitchen, then at the fridge, but didn’t say anything.

Even with amnesia, habits don’t change. He Lanjin had always been like this, often wanting something but not saying it. Lin Chun pursed her lips, “What, thirsty or hungry?”

He Lanjin looked up at Lin Chun. “Thirsty.”

“There’s mineral water in the fridge, or you can pour hot water from the kettle,” Lin Chun placed a glass on the coffee table in the living room, “I’m leaving.”

Lin Chun went to the entrance, bent down to put on her high heels, and adjusted her skirt in the mirror. She hadn’t had time to put on makeup today, so she took out a cushion compact from her bag and dabbed it on her face.

Suddenly, He Lanjin strode to the entrance, still standing there without speaking.

Lin Chun took out her lipstick, applied it, then pressed her lips together, using her pinky to wipe off the excess.

After a while, He Lanjin managed to say, “Pancakes.”

“I know, I’ll buy them,” Lin Chun put the compact and lipstick back in her bag, and after making sure she had her keys, she opened the door.

“Wait, wait,” He Lanjin looked at Lin Chun, “What’s your name?”

“Lin Chun,” Lin Chun tilted her head and blinked, “Lin as in forest, Chun as in pure.”

“Lin Chun,” He Lanjin’s lips curved slightly, “I’ll wait for you to come back.”

    “Okay.”
