At around 11 pm that night, Light returned to his bedroom.

The time it took to walk from Mu Chen’s room was not long, about five minutes or so, but when Light sat down on his office chair, he felt like he had never appreciated the comfort of his cushioned chair more than at that moment.

He leaned back on the plush chair, unconsciously reaching for a pack of cigarettes in his drawer.

    Click.

The bright sparks illuminated his side profile. As the bitter taste of tobacco spread through his mouth, he realised that nicotine too, was addictive, especially when one was feeling troubled by their thoughts.

The image of Mu Chen’s blue eyes, drooping upon hearing that Light had to go deal with work matters, surfaced in Light’s mind, and he felt his heart squeeze. At that moment, he nearly succumbed to the urge to hug Mu Chen and tell him he wouldn’t leave anymore.

However, the things that they did in that pool remained fresh in his mind. Just thinking of it made Light blush to his eartips. He could feel warmth down below, as though that area had been shocked by electricity, and he felt an indescribable bittersweetness. His brows furrowed, and he squeezed his legs together. This feeling he has, that every part of his body was foreign to him, was really…

    Way too strange.

Perhaps he had been affected by the mermaid’s pheromones at the time. He remembered how he lost control, to the point where he even lost track of the time.

Also, according to Kyle, the heat period for a mermaid normally lasts about 7 days, but for male mermaids like Mu Chen, their heat period may last longer than that.

    Seven days…

Light took another deep drag of his cigarette, his brows furrowed together tightly.

Till now, his lower abdomen still felt swollen, as though it had been tied up by some kind of invisible string.

Light’s subconscious told him, this was the doing of those pheromones.

He placed his palm down there, feeling how warm it was, and he got a sense of how strong his connection was with the other party. Light knew that from then on, he would be Mu Chen’s closest partner.

The smoke trails left behind by the dying cigarette masked the light blush on Light’s cheeks. He rubbed his lips together…

He would take responsibility for Mu Chen.

    Bzzt, bzzt, bzzt.

The terminal began to vibrate and brought him back to his senses.

Light turned on the screen and saw that Lance had sent him a message.

[Ge, have you found him yet?]

[Ge, how come you’ve disappeared too?]

[Ge, Kyle went to snitch on you to father, hurry up!]

[Ge? It’s been an hour, where are you guys?]

    [?]

[Nevermind, i’m going to bed first.]

    About three hours later,

    [Fuck, I’m awake now, why haven’t you replied to me yet?}

[There’s no way you guys are still in that pool?]

    [The call failed to connect.]

    [The call failed to connect.]

    ……

[It’s been 12 hours, you guys are okay right?]

[If you carry on being like this, I’m going to report your disappearance to the police (I’m joking).]

[There’s no way you guys have been washed out to sea, right?]

The message spam ended there, following it was a long pause.

Half an hour later, Lane sent him a final message, with just one character.

    [6]

When Light saw messages regarding Kyle, his brows would furrow, and he would unconsciously clench his fist, causing little veins to erupt on the back of his hand. Every time he thought about how the calculative boy had treated Mu Chen, Light would feel an urge to go teach him a lesson, but everytime he stood up to leave his chair, the soreness in his lower abdomen would cause him to sit back down.

His brows furrowed again, as he wrapped an arm around his abdomen while slowly sitting down…

Whatever, it would be better to call Lance over for a chat anyway.

    Light messaged Lance.

Not long after, Lance rushed over. He leaned against the doorframe and said, partly teasingly, “Oh, thank god, I almost thought that the pool you two were in had experienced a tsunami or something.”

With that, he glanced around the room curiously. The man sat on an office chair in the centre of the study room, wearing a pencil-straight suit vest, his legs crossed over each other. He even had a cigarette in his mouth. If you missed the countless unconcealable hickeys littering his neck, you would have easily assumed that he had just gotten out of some kind of negotiation with arms dealers.

Noticing the movement by the door, Light turned to face him.

Lance rubbed his chin, scanning the man before him multiple times over. The corners of his lips curved up a little with mirth, “You two couldn’t possibly have…”

“Mhm.” Light intoned deeply before Lance had the chance to ask any more probing questions, so that he could shut him up.

Lance crossed his arms in front of his chest, briefly raising his eyebrows while deep in thought, “That’s certainly something I would not have thought of…”

    Light, “?”

Lance held back his laughter. “Is this what it means to be a good Gege?”

Previously, every time Light had to help Mu Chen choose a suitor, his expression would be stone cold, always declaring them to be ‘unsuitable’ and ‘not good enough’. In fact, what he wanted was to keep him all to himself! No wonder every time those suitors were brought up, he would turn green with jealousy!

Being teased in this manner, Light rolled his eyes, his expression becoming slightly unsettled.

Lance stuck his head out and surveyed their surroundings, asking, “Where is he then?”

How come Light was here but Mu Chen was not?

    Light, “He’s still asleep.”

More specifically, when he left the room, Mu Chen was still in bed, lazing around.

    The room turned silent.

Lance turned back to give Light a look, sending him a wordless message:

    61.”

Was this the same man who had been single for 30 years and practiced his training routine every single day?

No wonder Light did not read any of the messages he sent him.

Light could tell that Lance was cooking up some strange thoughts in his head. He lowly coughed twice to try to steer their conversation towards other topics. “Has Kyle been to see my father?”

“Yep.” Bringing up Kyle made Lance agitated, “When I asked the maid to go provide her testimony and be our witness, he started fucking throwing a tantrum and cried till he was out of breath. Something about his son being beaten so badly he became ugly, something something, who was going to take responsibility for that.”

He added softly, “Isn’t he just getting his just deserts thought.”

Light wrinkled his brow, standing up from his seat, “I’m going to have a chat with my father, face to face.”

The next second, the blood suddenly drained from his face, leaving him standing stiffly in his spot without the ability to take even a step forward.

Faced with Lance’s befuddled expression, Light coughed twice, “How about you go ahead first, I’ll come soon.”

Lance still could not understand, “Huh?”

Did this matter really require them to go in batches?

Light’s brows wrinkled lightly again, he bit back the pain in his abdomen and squeezed out two words, “I’m busy.”

    “Oh.”

Lance rubbed his nose in confusion but still left the room first.

    ……

Two imperial guards dragged Dolly, in a chokehold, into the completely silent room.

After some time, the person behind Dolly finally relaxed their arm, and Dolly collapsed onto the floor, coughing and gasping for air in a panicked manner. Following this, he gingerly raised his head…

Before him was a massive water tank, about two storeys high. In the center, Great White Sharks swam, circling each other, flashing their chillingly sharp teeth. Blue light reflecting off the tank illuminated the man’s beautiful and defined features. His silver hair cascaded down his shoulders and his eyes, that were originally a light blue, made one feel a deepening dread in the dimly lit room.

The man’s long legs were crossed and he cocked his head to observe Dolly. He was just near enough that he could look up and reach out to start shining the man’s shoes.

Clearly, Mu Chen had not said a single word, yet, his gaze alone made Dolly start freaking out.

His lips quivering, his face pallid, and with his back covered in cold sweat, he mumbled,

    “Your…your highness.”

Mu Chen rubbed his lips together. “These two sharks haven’t eaten for a day.”

“Your Highness! I’m sorry, I, I…I was forced to, Your Highness!” Dolly begged in terror, all the while nervously glancing at the monstrous shark,

“Now, answer my question.” Mu Chen bent down, coldly glaring at him, “Was the alcohol your doing?”

Dolly, “It…it was me, but Your Highness, I, I…”

Mu Chen raised a brow, “You can’t think of anything else to say?”

He raised his hand to press a switch, and the water tank fell half a meter.

“It was Prince Kyle who made me do it!”

    Dolly howled.

When he finished, Mu Chen was motionless, the water tank behind him continuing to descend. By then, it had nearly reached the ground.

Dolly racked his brain, spilling all he knew, “He made me drug you, and—and he arranged for the maid to go in, to try and sully your image, and even now, he’s trying to make me…”

A droplet of icy cold water splashed from the open tank, landing on his face. Dolly squeezed his eyes shut tightly, his body shaking so hard he lost the ability to speak.

Mu Chen’s lips curved upwards, encouraging the other party to continue talking, “What else did he want you to do? It’s alright, keep talking…”

Dolly lowered his head; he dared not make eye contact with him. “And he wanted me to be his witness, in claiming that you raised your fists against him first.”

Mu Chen let out an “Oh. Then are you going to do that for him?”

    Dolly, “No…no I won’t!”

Mu Chen nodded in satisfaction, “When the time comes, when we’re in front of everybody, will I have to remind you what to say a second time?”

“No…no need…” Dolly vigorously shook his head, “I’ll report the situation exactly as it was.”

Clack! With that, the lid of the water tank snapped shut.

Mu Chen got up and walked out of the room, leaving behind his quivering attendant.
