Everyone in the base, whether they had seen Light or not, knew that their general was a man of decisive action, never dragging his feet when it came to major decisions.

They even thought that, given Light’s personality, if he decided to marry someone, he might buy a ring in the morning, propose in the afternoon, and announce the engagement by evening.

However, they never expected that one day, this assumption would actually come true.

Light had indeed wanted to do just that, but considering that Mu Chen was still in the midst of his mating period, with unstable emotions and physical condition, these matters had to be temporarily postponed.

As it turned out, not only was the merman affected by the mating period, but Light himself was also completely tied up.

These past few days, Mu Chen only wanted to stay in Light’s bedroom, unwilling to even go out to eat. He had driven all the attendants out of the palace and was hostile to everyone except Light, like a big cat on the roadside that would hiss and puff up at the slightest annoyance from a stranger.

But once back in his warm nest, he instantly transformed into a dragon guarding its treasure, unreasonable and domineering. The merman had piled up various blankets, quilts, and clothes to create a nest that, while not aesthetically pleasing, he felt very secure in it. He had also claimed Light as his “possession,” keeping him within the nest.

It was now 9 AM, and the sunlight that should have been bright was blocked by heavy curtains.

A hand with distinct knuckles emerged from the quilt. Light lifted his heavy eyelids, glanced at his terminal, and lay back down.

At this time, he would usually already be sweating it out in the training room.

But now, Light felt a pervasive soreness throughout his body and he felt lazy. After spending so much time in the merman’s nest, he had even started to lose track of day and night, not to mention the many hours spent in the water.

A long, even breath came from beside him. Light turned to look. The merman was still asleep. He liked to sleep on his stomach, with half of his face buried in the pillow, his thick silver hair spread out, revealing a high nose bridge and a hint of pink lips.

Mu Chen, quiet and not speaking, looked like a sleeping beauty from a fairy tale.

The merman carried a faint scent of post-bath freshness, like coconut trees by the beach, mixed with a cool sea breeze.

After spending so much time together, Light felt as if his own scent had been invaded by the other, as if he too carried a faint scent of sea breeze.

Thinking of this, he looked down at the loose long-sleeved pajamas he was wearing. They were made of pure cotton, very comfortable, with a large white shark logo printed in the center.

    These were Mu Chen’s clothes.

For the past few days, Light had been mostly wearing Mu Chen’s clothes.

Before the merman’s mating period, Light had never imagined that his shirts would become the most used disposable items. Usually, by the end, he had long forgotten where the clothes had been tossed, and even if he remembered, he couldn’t be bothered to button them up again. He often just grabbed a hoodie or sweater from Mu Chen’s wardrobe for convenience.

After zoning out on the bed for a while, Light thought about getting up to pour himself a glass of water. But as soon as his feet touched the ground…

    “Mmm.”

A dissatisfied murmur came from behind him, followed by a pair of long, strong arms wrapping around Light’s waist, gently pulling him back until his back was against the other’s warm chest.

The merman held him, his hands sneaking into the loose clothes, misbehaving.

Light caught his mischievous hands and asked in a hoarse voice, “Awake? Are you hungry?”

“Hungry—” Mu Chen nuzzled Light with his nose, afraid he might slip away. His arms suddenly tightened, holding Light close. “But won’t go out. Ge, don’t go out either.”

    Like a spoiled child.

Light seemed already accustomed to this. He turned over, reached out to brush away the hair from Mu Chen’s forehead, and said, “I’ll have someone bring it in.”

“Mm.” Mu Chen pursed his lips and kissed Light on the cheek.

    So clingy.

At times like this, Light couldn’t help but wonder how the other had graduated at the top of his class from the No. 1 Military Academy.

Though he thought this, the smile that couldn’t be suppressed no matter how hard he tried didn’t seem like he disliked being kissed.

During the years of fighting the Zergs, the military camp had been in a state of constant tension. The faces of the frontline soldiers rarely saw smiles, and the most lively times were during the few annual ceasefire holidays. Many young officers would excitedly open a bottle of champagne to celebrate being able to reunite with their lovers for half a day. Back then, Light didn’t understand this sentiment, thinking that the half-day would be better spent resting and recuperating.

But now, looking at the beautiful merman beside him with his curved eyebrows, he suddenly understood.

This dense, inexplicable feeling was like strands pulled from steaming malt syrup, sticky and cloyingly sweet, impossible to separate, lingering like lotus roots connected by threads.

Not to mention seeing each other only once a year for half a day. Even being apart for half a day would make Light frown.

Especially since he was raising a merman whose clinginess rivaled that of an octopus.

Once Mu Chen woke up, he became restless.

His fingertips lightly touched the purple-red “strawberry” under the Light’s Adam’s apple, “surprised,” “Did I do that?”

Light glanced at him, saying nothing.

    Asking the obvious.

Mu Chen touched it with his fingertip, whispering, “Did I bite too hard?”

“…No.” Light’s long lashes fluttered, and he instinctively shrank back, grabbing Mu Chen’s finger.

    He was ticklish.

Especially around his waist and neck.

But Mu Chen liked to tease him. At first, Light would resist, telling the other, “Don’t do that,” but the result was only more intense, with red marks that wouldn’t fade for two or three days. Thinking of this, Light’s ears turned red again.

Gege, why is your face red too?” Mu Chen pursed his lips, looking “innocently” at the other, “I didn’t bite there.”

    Light stiffened again.

Knock, knock, knock. Just then, there was a knock at the door.

    The attendant brought breakfast.

    “I’ll get it.”

Mu Chen smiled at Light, then jumped off the bed.

He was wearing a simple white T-shirt, his broad shoulders filling out the shirt’s outline. His back muscles were defined, his silver hair swaying behind him like a snow leopard ready to pounce, always finding the right moment to seize its prey’s throat. But when idle, he liked to lazily bask in the sun, often using his big tail to hook people.

Mu Chen brought back the tray, setting it up on the bed with a stand.

After they washed up in the bathroom and opened the heavy curtains, sunlight poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and they lay back on the bed.

The tray was placed in front of Light, while Mu Chen hugged him from behind, gently massaging Light’s waist.

The latter’s muscles stiffened, then gradually relaxed.

Mu Chen had both hands wrapped around Light, so he shamelessly opened his mouth, “Ah—”

Light handed him the fork, feeding him.

Each bite was followed by a kiss.

Breakfast dragged on for an hour.

Mu Chen’s mating period symptoms stabilized after about a week. He had wanted to linger a bit longer, but because Light had to deal with his piled-up military duties, he was forced to leave his beloved “nest” early.

That morning, when Lance walked into the dining room and saw Light sitting there solemnly drinking coffee, he was momentarily stunned, thinking that the couple’s “honeymoon” was finally over. It hadn’t been easy.

    Seven days, a whole week.

Anyone else would have been worn out.

Hearing the noise nearby, Light looked up from his terminal and greeted Lance.

    “Tsk, tsk…”

Lance just smiled, his probing gaze wandering over his brother’s face.

Once a man opens up, even the feeling he gives off changes. Light’s facial features were originally very sharp, almost incompatible with the word “soft.” But now, looking at him, the corners of his eyes and brows seemed to have been softened by a hot spring, clearly indicating that he had been living well these past few days.

Just as Lance was thinking this…

    “Good morning.”

Mu Chen arrived shortly after, smiling and greeting Lance.

    Lance, “Morning…”

Before he could finish his sentence, he saw Mu Chen bend down, wrap his arms around Light’s neck, and press close to his cheek, extremely intimate, “Gege, good morning…”

Then, he planted a deep kiss on the corner of Light’s mouth.

If the onomatopoeia “mua” really existed, that was the sound Lance heard at that moment, in bold capital letters.

Light’s usually solemn expression finally cracked. He was like a piece of melted ice, coughing lightly, “Good morning.”

    Lance, “…”

    Why do I feel redundant?

    Creak!

Mu Chen pulled out the chair between Lance and Light, sitting down and leaning on Light like a boneless fish, not finding anything wrong with it.

Light didn’t even change his expression. He turned to look at Mu Chen, “What do you want to eat?”

Mu Chen slightly lifted his chin, pointing to the hazelnut spread next to Light, “That.”

Light took the hazelnut spread and patiently spread it on the bread for him.

    Lance, “…”

Ten years ago, when Mu Chen just entered the palace as a little mermaid, he wouldn’t even ask Light to spread bread for him. How have they become so clingy now?

Mu Chen watched Light spread the bread, saying, “A bit more, gege.”

    Light, “Be careful of toothache.”

Though he said this, he added another layer for Mu Chen.

Mu Chen curved his lips, smiling at Light, revealing a row of white, pearly white teeth, with two sharp little canines, “I brush my teeth very cleanly.

Lance, who was spreading jam on his own bread, suddenly trembled. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the two. To be precise, Mu Chen was sticking to Light, even when spreading hazelnut jam, they had to be close together. At that moment, a layer of goosebumps appeared on his back, and an ominous feeling rose in his heart…

Damn, are these two going to be like this from now on?

Will I have to eat with them in the future?

    What does that make me?

    A clown?

    On the other side,

Mu Chen took the bread Light had spread for him and kissed him again. “Thank you, gege.

He took a bite of the bread, his cheeks puffing out, “Are we announcing the engagement tomorrow?”

Light, “Mm, but we need to go to Kole’s first for a check-up.”

To see if everything was normal after Mu Chen’s mating period.
