    Goodbye, my Beloved (Part 1)

The next day, I headed to Nox’s room with a homemade cake. Baking cakes had become something of a hobby for me, and whenever I had a request to make or something to celebrate, I would decorate a cake cutely and share it with everyone.

When I reached the door to the room, I stopped in my tracks upon hearing voices from inside.

“You should tell Sol the truth!”

I was startled by Alan’s shouting. I could also hear Zain trying to calm him down, but the agitated voice showed no signs of stopping. Ruki’s voice chimed in, trying to soothe Alan as well.

“What good would telling him do?”

Nox’s cold voice reached my ears, and a small sound escaped my throat. It was a voice I had never heard before, icy and unfeeling. My hands began to tremble on their own.

“Sol is no longer a child. He has the strength to protect himself. With the humans desperately searching for the Hero, telling Sol that he is the Hero would ultimately help protect him.”

“Yeah, that might be true, but he’s lived this long without knowing. If he finds out now, wouldn’t it just confuse him?”

What are they talking about? The Hero…? Did they just say I’m the Hero?

A cold sensation spread through my limbs, and my body began to shake. The cake in my hands warped under my grip, and for some reason, tears started to spill. I remembered the dream where I had stabbed Nox with a sword. An indescribable fear enveloped my entire body, and I trembled uncontrollably.

“I have no intention of telling Sol. I will not let him leave the Demon King’s castle.”

    “But—”

“This discussion is over. I will not allow it to be brought up again. Nor will I allow anyone to tell Sol that he is the Hero.”

“Your Majesty, isn’t that too cruel to Sol?”

Following Alan, Ruki also spoke up.

“Ruki. Did you not hear my words?”

At Nox’s words, everyone fell silent. Clutching the cake with trembling hands, I quietly stepped away from the door. For ten years, I had lived with everyone here. All this time, yet no one had ever told me about the Hero.

I realized it had been deliberately hidden from me. There were so many signs that I could recall now. But I had never once thought that I might be the Hero.
